The best surprise? This volume isn't overly angsty, merely while the angst isn't OTT and never sinks into melodrama, it's not a sparkly rainbow either: in that location are (view spoiler)[mentions of past physical abuse and prostitution, on-page PTSD, and references to a suicide attempt past a secondary grapheme. (hide spoiler)]

At that place's plenty of steam (Maddox worships Isaac's trunk), but the focus is very much on the emotional aspects of the relationship.

Maddox and Isaac are just perfect together! I liked seeing Dallas and Nolan again too.

There are many potential futurity pairings (oh, hello, Sheriff McSexy!), and I'm greedy for more than. I'k particularly looking forward to Jett's story. I love wounded heroes and hurt/comfort.

My one complaint is that Isaac'south little brother, Newt, is a near replica of Matty from the Protectors series, except instead of a Spidey action figure he carries effectually Lightning McQueen from Cars.

The way Sloane wrote this book, I think information technology would be possible to read information technology as a stand alone. My advice nevertheless, is to start with volume 1, because a lot of characters from the kickoff book,  reappear in this story.

Isaac and his 4 twelvemonth quondam brother Newt, accept been on the run for some time. The plan was to simply return Nolan´southward violin so to set of to New York. But Isaac hadn't counted on The Sanctuary to be such a wonderful place, and on Nolan and Dallas to be such astonishing people. I mean the place does have carry, an awesome wolf, and an ornery zebra.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366

He certainly hadn´t counted on Maddox.... Big and broody Maddox, who has and then much more going for him, than meets the eye. Isaac is about to find out how much more ...

From the moment Maddox sets his sight on Isaac, he knows something is different. Maddox has never been one for labels, and even though he has only been with a few women (except for one kiss) he isn't actually worried well-nigh having feelings for a man.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366

I could actually find myself in Maddox' way of thinking. Labels are for clothes subsequently all....non people...

It takes some time for these two to finally gather and when they do, they certainly set the sheets on fire..

tumblr_static_tumblr_static_b5z797da40g8kgkk0ok4gkc4k_640.gif (493×278)

Isaac besides has a little kink going for him, that Maddox can't get plenty of ;)

But I am gonna be completely honest here..... The one that really stole the evidence for me was Newt !! That kid was freaking adorable !! Next time someone makes me a promise, I will make them spit and shake on information technology !!!

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366

I really loved this second volume in the series and I can't await for Cam and Ford'due south story. Highly recommended !!

The second book in the Pelican Bay serial and what I like to call the hating ass town. I was kind of iffy almost reading this one since the first volume pissed me off so much and I didn't desire to deal with that kind of emotion again. Luckily, this book was about focused on the couple and I didn't take to deal with inhabitants that spend all their days drinking haterade. Merely, while there was less about the town it didn't mean there weren't snippets that pissed me off, and Maddox that guy he pissed me off, but we absurd now.

We commencement met Maddox and Isaac at the end of Locked In Silence and from the become become yous could tell their story was going to be interesting and sexy as hell. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. Isaac who is running from something with his little brother get taken in at the creature sanctuary and begin to build a little family with the guys from LiS and of grade Maddox. While sparks fly between the two men their coming together is rather tumultuous and there'southward a lot of preconceived notions that have to be thrown out.

Maddox is dealing with PTSD and his very outset attraction to a human being and it'south messing with his head. Also mans doesn't know how to use his words and so he finds himself in a lot of situations where Isaac is jumping to conclusions and he's doing nothing to diffuse the bomb. Isaac, was very defensive and could not differentiate between assist and pity. His redeeming quality is being able to put it all on the line to keep his little brother safe and his willing to do it all to make sure they accept money to survive.

An incident in a motel room leads to a clash between the men but it also begins their beloved story. Isaac understands Maddox like no i else could, and Maddox finds himself caring deeply for the young man and his trivial brother. They begin to burrow themselves within his heart and he starts to recall maybe he isn't such a waste product man and perchance he tin can begin to heal from sometime hurts and right the wrongs of hurts he's acquired particularly to his brother and perhaps he can take some class of redemption. Because the sanctuary isn't just for the animals, information technology'south become a place of refuge for him also.

Alright, the story was skillful. The writing was proficient, and merely everything came together really well. I was hella annoyed in the start with Maddox rehashing the antisocial donkey town of old, and his interest in isolating and hating on his blood brother and let me tell you folks it did nothing to assist me go over to his side of things. I will never forgive that a town isolated and hated on a man who did zero wrong, and Maddox knew how problematic his parents were and withal acted a darn fool. The town melodrama then melts into the groundwork (hallelujah) and our dearest story rises like a Phoenix from the ashes. Isaac and Maddox showtime to heat things and melt all the snow they were surrounded past.

The plotty device, while very sad didn't really add any meat to the story. I could have done with more of Maddox'southward PTSD , and less of Isaac hooker boy ways just I understand the need in creating a backstory for Isaac hooker ways, only there would have been nothing wrong if he was just doing it considering he wanted to. I absolutely adored Newt, Issacs little blood brother he really created a prissy balance in the story and was an important part of the story. Children can just be properties in stories, providing no real presence merely Newt was very much a role of Sanctuary Found and its as much his story equally it is Maddox/Isaacs.

Overall, a great addition to the series. Information technology had the right amount of heat with sugariness and while information technology didn't "wow" me it didn't disappoint me either. Sloan Kennedy is becoming an author I savor reading. Her stuff, some formulated just still very entertaining and I e'er observe myself unable to cease reading. Looking forward to reading more nearly this town and hating donkey ways, who else will succumb to love in Pelican "town haters" Bay??

This had everything I want in a book. Historic period-gap, lots of hurt/comfort, a cute effeminate guy, and a tough veteran with PTSD. And even though I liked it, I sometimes felt every bit if this volume would never end. I'm not even sure why that is.

I'm all the same going with iii.5 stars because I did like it. Simply I'g not sure if it had that something special I'thousand looking for in a book.

I would recommend reading the first book before you get-go this since the story kind of starts there.

Isaac is on the run with his 4 year sometime brother Newt. He got roped into stealing a violin from someone by a beau, but it turned out the young man was lying. And that's how Isaac finds himself on Nolan Grainger's doorstep, to render the violin.

Maddox came to the animal wildlife sanctuary his blood brother owns to make amends. He treated his brother terribly in the by and knows he can never really redeem himself. But he can at least try.

When Isaac gets offered a job at the sanctuary he knows he cannot have it, merely he doesn't actually have a choice, since he has to think about his fiddling brother too. And that'southward how Isaac finds himself surrounded by kindhearted people. Dallas and his boyfriend Nolan, and Dallas' brother, Maddox. Although Maddox kind of scares Isaac. Not because he thinks he will impairment him, merely because Isaac fears for his heart….

As we are used to in Sloane Kennedy'southward books both Maddox and Isaac had some bug they needed to overcome. Isaac was used to men using him, since he prostituted himself to get by, and Maddox suffered from PTSD and lots of guilt from his regular army experiences.
I'thou always amazed how SK can rest these hurt/comfort moments with both men without it feeling besides much. These guys kind of took turns with the hurt and the comforting and it always feels so natural in SK books.

I do have to admit despite all these ingredients, I'm nevertheless a flake hesitant about this series. It has so much potential, merely for some reason at that place seem to be something missing for me.

Just I still enjoyed it a lot, so 3.5 stars information technology is.

(And can I say that even though I loved Newt, I have a iv year old myself and I cannot imagine my kid saying the things Newt said. I guess my 4 twelvemonth former is pretty oblivious to his surround and rambles a lot about zilch instead of agreement all the grown-up talk Newt seem to understand. But okay, I just went with it hither.)

Nosotros encounter the progression of these complex men, Isaac and Maddox. Their sexy times sizzle, and Maddox gets intense first times.

The men talk, each one's secrets are revealed, and a super secret of Isaac's is exposed to Maddox.

We encounter a medical episode, and Isaac's past brings serious trouble, but no one is lone anymore.
This is another glorious story past Sloane Kennedy, and her fabulous writing. Each tale tin can stand up solitary.

Loved this glimpse of opposites, GFY, action, rescue and hot romance.

True to this author : she knows how to write well-nigh characters that are so endearing, despite their flaws and their traumas. She's very prolific and her writing works very well with me. I judge information technology's because there is always a lot of emotions pouring through it.

This is the second instalment of the Pelican Bay serial. Non actually a standalone imo. The previous MCs and all the circumstances that leads toward Isaac and Maddox's story are very nowadays. A affect too much for me every bit the first 20% is a rehash of the ending of the commencement volume, ie the arrival of Isaac and Newt, his little blood brother, in the animal sanctuary endemic by Dallas, Maddox'due south brother. Isaac and Newt are on their mode to New York only finally stay a piffling scrap longer than anticipated in Pelican Bay.

Isaac and Maddox are full opposite and their encounters are quite rocky. Merely they tin can't assistance gravitate effectually each other. And the tension between them is quite delicious : from common cold to hot until they give in. The ending was quite rushed and a flake unrealistic, but I didn't care : I wanted a dainty HEA and I got it.
And they are surrounded past great secondary characters : Newt, the fiddling boy and then loved by Isaac but in need of a family unit, Dallas and Nolan, still and then much in honey, and so many others like the new sexy sheriff or Sawyer, the laid-back veterinarian, or Jett, the wounded soldier. This will make for quite a good series.

An Off-Balanced Read....

I was soooo set up to put this book aside considering I was getting none of the feels of the first (which I loved).

But then, things started to pick upwards as Isaac and Maddox'south storyline diverged from that of Dallas and Nolan's. Was it enough to become the story moving again? Yes. But now you've made a cranky reader out of me, a less forgiving 1.

It's true, I ended upwardly liking the concluding third much more, and I fifty-fifty came to care for the MCs—Maddox in particular. The tension came and went, simply it was skillful. Maddox has never really been with a guy before, but he wants Isaac. He gets Isaac. Isaac is hiding his by and running from information technology. He feels as well safe with Maddox. In that location is a huge push button and pull between them that works for the most part.

The sex is hot....manties level hot! And there is an HEA...a solid i. SPOILER AHEAD....I just wish that Kennedy would have written upwards the proposal scene for us instead of telling us nearly information technology.

The second in her Pelican Bay serial is a real beauty, dealing as it does with an ex military Lieutenant dealing with PTSD and a fellow who'southward had more than to deal with in caring for his brother than anyone should have to.

But together, they provided the strength and the construction to allow their family to start healing. I loved Isaac and Maddox and petty Newt was cute without being overbearing in his abilities and he very much acted his age.

A few thoughts:

I'chiliad used to Sloane penning a book with astonishing characters and groovy plots. This is true hither. What I recall, though, is the writing is maturing very, very nicely. It was always great, and now information technology is outstanding. The sex scenes (in detail) are not formulaic and experience authentic to the characters. The standard formula (manus jobs >> blow jobs >>> anal) gets thrown out the window give thanks goodness because I am getting bored of it. The sexual tension was there and the encounters were non only sexy simply fed your agreement of the characters.

Having the drama be "striking yous over the caput" is likewise gone - and the plot tension flows forth w/o ever being pushed. Of form it'south a romance so y'all know at some betoken the past always catches up with the people. Simply it didn't feel contrived.

One affair I am always amazed of is how Sloane interjects this feeling of family unit in all the books. They all contain, but non in a stereotypical way, what makes a family unit. I think that's why they tug so hard at your heartstrings - because knowing someone has "got our back" and cares most us - and is willing to stand behind usa - is something everyone desires. Even the well-nigh loner out of all of us wants that. It is delivered in spades hither.

Cannot expect for the Cam/Ford story - this is nearly the only author who I have read EVERY unmarried one of his/her books - I simply never miss whatsoever if I can help it. Bravo!

I'g still not overly enchanted with the narration but it's not what I would consider to be 'bad' either. The voices just don't quite work for me...and then it's all nearly the personal preference and nothing more. Still a solid and enjoyable story from my perspective.

Maddox, Isaac and especially Newton stole a piece of my heart. There was enemies to lovers, military men, historic period gap, and a cute kid in this volume. There was everything I wanted in a story and I was in sky!

I'd thought I'd needed a label for what Maddox was, simply gay, straight, or bi, I simply didn't care anymore. What he was, was mine.

When Isaac and Mad finally come together, it's similar Smash. It was sizzling hot.

I'm going to accept to go back and read the showtime book considering, I demand to meet what happens to Maddox's brother and I'k definitely hoping for more books in this series. Sloane is fast becoming a ane-click author for me.

"But y'all're the only person I've never wanted to cease kissing. Y'all're the just one who keeps me awake at nighttime as I imagine what it would be like to be inside y'all. Y'all. Not Isaac the human being or Isaac with the makeup or Isaac, the guy who wears women'due south underwear. Merely you."

the characters were really sweet, and had a piddling more depth than the previous books'. upon meeting maddox and isaac in the first book i knew there was going to exist something sweet in that location. maddox had previous trauma from his fourth dimension in the military machine. and isaac was running from his past. together they were able to help each other through information technology. and not just the "dear conquers all" type shit y'all see in all romance novels.

only like i mentioned previously, the icing on the cake for me was really how deeply and innately these characters knew each other. i don't desire to spoil anything simply isaac is kind of non traditional. he wears makeup, he wears women's clothing, merely he'south firmly male person. and maddox never questioned it. never made isaac experience bad. embraced him, loved him, DIDN'T FETISHIZE HIM. so. hither. for. information technology.

Likewise NEWT WAS CUTE AF AND A LOVELY ADDITION.

if you're looking for something new or want a nice emotional MM to dip your toes in the water of MM with, give this a go.

On the one mitt, it confirmed my belief that Maddox and Isaac are very interesting characters, and together they brand an astonishing couple. On the other hand, something was missing hither. And it is definitely not a good idea to read the 2d book correct after the first. Mostly considering the second book does non starting time where the previous i ended. It starts earlier, with Maddox and Isaac coming together the first time. The trouble is that we take already seen this scene from Nolan and Dallas POV before. At present nosotros are post-obit the closing events of the start book, but from the point of view of Maddox and Isaac. So a complete repetition of what we already know for about the first third of the book.

But likewise, as I said, Maddox and Isaac are fascinating characters. They are complex and multi-dimensional. On elevation of that, I actually liked Isaac'due south footling brother, and that is really something! I commonly hate children in books. This author can write adept characters without a doubt. Probably if the next book had been about Jax, I would have read it also every bit soon every bit I finished the second one. He already seems intriguing to me.

And probably 1 mean solar day I volition read another book in this series, because the story of Ford and the sheriff can also be interesting. Although I hope the Jax story volition come out soon. I'chiliad not sure if I volition remember this story for a long time, but who knows. These characters are and then interesting that it is possible.

I liked this one almost every bit much as the showtime. Another character-driven story with plenty of emotion and drama. It didn't emotionally wreck me like the showtime one, but what it did, information technology did very well - historic period-gap, opposites attract, both men dealing with their own huge bug and an ambrosial kid. I in one case once again loved all the characters and once again, am jumping straight into the side by side book.

This was a solid Book ii in the Pelican Bay series . While I enjoyed information technology for the about part, Locked In Silence still has my heart and is however my favourite of the series (so far).

Initially, all Maddox idea about was how he was never going to get his blood brother'south forgiveness. It got a bit repetitive for a while in the book but in one case he realised he had information technology, everything went smoothly.

The writing was solid, the kid included(Newt) was a great secondary character and I thought the pacing, dialogue, and the introduction of a couple of more chapters added a chip more than to the story every bit a whole.

I must admit that, I thought the resolution of Isaac's case was resolved too quickly and a bit unrealistically simply it gave everyone their HEA so there's that.

There were hints of two more couples/pairings I could see, which could hateful at least 2 more books in this serial and if I'm right about these, there are definitely more heady times coming to Pelican Bay!
